Wizard of the Coast has announced that it will give fans a one-day window to order Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set to make up for the issues that occurred during the original sale. The one-day sale will be held on December 9, with fulfillment scheduled for late 2027.
In an announcement on their website, Secret Lair manager Matthew Hodgins revealed the results of the company’s investigation into the incident and took responsibility for the decision to pause the pre-order queue (see “‘Magic: The Gathering’ ‘Zeta Set’ Sale Experiences Technical Difficulties”, “Wizards of the Coast Declares ‘Magic: The Gathering’ ‘The Zeta Set’ Sale a ‘Disaster’”). Following a disruption to the system backend, the queue was paused until the issue could be sorted out. When resolving the backlog of orders during the outage, however, it was discovered that the available product had sold out.
As a result, customers ended up spending hours waiting to place orders for product that was no longer available, an experience that Hodgins described as “frustrating,” stating: “That’s the worst version of this. You gave us your time, you were patient, and a lot of you felt let down. I am sorry. Genuinely. If you waited and walked away empty-handed, I understand why you’re angry, and I’d be angry, too.”
To give those who were disappointed another opportunity to get the set, Wizards is going to run back the sale with a special limited 24-hour order window. All orders received during that window will be fulfilled, with those orders being delivered sometime in the second half of 2027.
Customers who were able to place orders during the initial offering will still receive their product on the original schedule, with shipping in the US on November 5 and in Europe on December 8, though any of those customers who no longer want the set due to these changes will have an opportunity to cancel their orders.
