Renegade Raises 'Steam Kingdom'

Renegade Game Studios has announced plans to release Steam Kingdom, a tile-laying game with an underwater steampunk theme scheduled to launch in March.

Created by Steven Carlson and Seth Jaffee (Crusaders:  They Will Be Done, Eminent Domain), Steam Kingdom is set in a steampunk world in which a long-lost city has been discovered at the bottom of the ocean.  The players compete to explore and rebuild the city through a network of nautilus tubes, trying to guide its redevelopment to match their own blueprints.

During the game, players must manage their resources as they play tiles in a shared network with the other players.  Points are awarded by creating combinations on the game board that match their blueprint cards.

The game is intended for two to four players, and takes a little under an hour to play.  It includes 71 city tiles, 59 cards, 4 resource tracks, 64 markers, a start player token, and a score pad.  The Sunken Treasures mini-expansion is also included in the box, which adds 20 treasure cards and 6 more tokens.  MSRP is $45.00.

Steam Kingdom follows February’s release of the revamped Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game (see “‘Dungeons & Dragons:  Castle Ravenloft Board Game’ Returns“).  Renegade has also announced the renewal of its partnership with Hasbro (see “Renegade, Hasbro Renew Games License“).  The company will be winding down its partnership with White Wolf as the year concludes (see “Renegade Game Studios Will Conclude Publishing Partnership with White Wolf“).
