Fall is officially here, and so is more Hollywood news. Time for a round-up!
Avengers: Endgame Encore was the biggest movie at the weekend domestic box office at around $26 million, according to Variety. This theatrical rerelease of the 2019 movie (see “‘Avengers: Endgame’ Goes for ‘Encore’“) includes four minutes of new footage, shot during the Avengers: Doomsday production (see “‘Avengers: Doomsday’“), featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Paramount settled an antitrust lawsuit that was preventing the close of its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, according to Variety. Attorneys general from a dozen states had sued Paramount over the acquisition, and a judge had issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the deal for 28 days (see “Postponed“). Paramount concessions included a requirement for a minimum number of movie releases over a five-year period, a commitment to keep both studio lots in Los Angeles for at least five years, and a commitment to increase spending on domestic film production. The deal is now expected to close soon.
Netflix released a sneak peek of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (see below). The second season of the popular anime series (see “‘Cyberpunk Anime’“) will hit streaming on October 20, 2026.
Warner Bros. recently shuffled release dates of certain film projects, according to Deadline. The animated Dynamic Duo movie (see “‘Dynamic Duo’“) is moving from June 20, 2028 to September 22, 2028. The untitled Gremlins movie is moving from November 18, 2027 to October 6, 2028.
Marvel Studios is ending Daredevil: Born Again after Season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The announcement of the end of the series comes after showrunner Dario Scardapane (see “‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Showrunner“) parted ways with Marvel after his contract was up but before post-production on Season 3 was completed.
Disney+ has greenlit the new Darkwing Duck series (see “‘Darkwing Duck’ Reboot“), and announced the voice cast. This series will star Mark Hamill as the voice of Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck and Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack.Source: ICv2
