‘Magic: The Gathering’ PSA 10 Alpha Black Lotus Sells for Over $2.2 Million

Goldin Auctions sold a PSA Gem Mint 10 Alpha Black Lotus, for Magic: The Gathering, for $2.208 million (including buyer’s premium) at their 2026 Summer Goldin 100 auction.

This sale of one of three PSA Gem Mint 10 Alpha Black Lotus cards that currently exist hammered a record auction price for this card type.  However, it came up short of the private sale record of the CGC Pristine 10 Alpha Black Lotus that sold for $3 million in 2024 (see “Sells for $3 Million“).  As noted in other ICv2 auction articles, PSA-graded Gem Mint cards tend to hold a premium at auction to similar cards graded Gem Mint or Pristine by other services (see “Prices Rebalance“).

This may have been a case where bidders in this auction actually bought the card, itself, versus buying the PSA grader’s opinion of the card. Goldin mentioned in the auction listing that the card was reholdered 2026, but did not list it as being regraded (see “‘2026 Summer Goldin 100’ Auction“).  The PSA certification number does not provide a specific timestamp as to when the card was actually graded, but the grade was likely a little bit older because the card was reholdered.

Additionally, as several watchers of the auction noted on various social media posts, the PSA 10 Alpha Black Lotus had a few more white printer cut marks on the edge corners than other PSA 10 versions of the card, such as the one sold by PWWC in 2021 (see “Alpha Black Lotus Goes for $511.1K“).  These rounded edge cut marks, although a fairly common feature on Alpha Edition cards (Cartamundi was still working out the cutting process on this first run of Magic), are noticeable enough in the card’s auction photo that they can be seen without a jeweler’s loupe; the cut marks could have stifled bidding a little.

Also, in this auction, a CGC 9 1998 Pokémon Japanese CoroCoro Comic Promo Holo Illustrator Pikachu sold for $2.806 million.  This sale number is over triple what a PSA 8.5 version of this card that hammered at $843,750 in June 2026 at Heritage (see “Auction Block“).
