The autumnal equinox is approaching, and summer is officially coming to an end. However, the heat wave of Hollywood news continues on; here’s a new round-up!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has topped Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing domestic movie release of all time, according to Variety. The movie hit $936.773 million domestically, after 47 days in theaters, passing The Force Awakens’ $936.6 million box office record (see “Claims #2 All-Time“). It has also earned $2.45 billion worldwide, putting it third on the all-time global box office list behind Avatar ($2.9 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion).
Netflix and SEGA are developing a new Sonic the Hedgehog animated series. The series follows up on the recent success of the Sonic Prime animated series and the Sonic movies. A fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie will head to theaters in 2027 (see “Best in Shows — 2027“).
Crunchyroll recently announced its Fall Season 2026 anime series lineup. The lineup includes an early premiere of Overgeared (September 27, 2026), which is based on a webtoon manhwa by Ize Press (see “Upcoming Adaptations“). This season will also see the release of The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 (October 2, 2026), Black Clover Season 2 (October 3, 2026), PSYREN (October 5, 2026), and Firefly Wedding (October 9, 2026).
Warner Bros. Entertainment released a trailer for Batman Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest (see below). This will be the second movie in the trilogy of Knighfall movies that are to be released on digital and home video (see “Knightfall’ Animated Movies“) on December 8, 2026.
Lionsgate released a new trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (see below). This movie takes place 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games (see “‘Hunger Games’“) and features an all-new cast of tributes. It will release on November 20, 2026 in theaters and IMAX.
Charlize Theron will serve as an executive producer for Hulu’s The Mafia Nanny series, according to Deadline. This series will be adapted from the popular Webtoon series about a graduate of the Elite Nanny Academy who becomes the nanny of the oldest son of a notorious mafia underboss (see “Popular Series to Print“).Source: ICv2
