Clover Press has launched the Kickstarter project for the first four volumes in its continuation of the Marvel Masterworks series of archival collections; the retailer tier includes three cover versions for each of the four titles. Clover announced that it was going to take over publishing the line, which has been on hiatus since last year, at San Diego Comic-Con (see “Clover To Take Over ‘Masterworks’”).
The four titles, all of which continue with legacy numbers from the Marvel series, will be offered with three covers. The first two match the trade dress from the original Marvel series and the Remasterworks series, which launched in 2023 (see “’ReMasterworks’”), the third is a new, more dynamic cover design by Clover Press. The books will be printed by the same printer as the earlier volumes, ensuring continuity of appearance.
The retailer tier offers the books at 50% off plus shipping post-campaign through Backerkit with a $50 deposit.
The four volumes are:
Uncanny X-Men Vol. 18 (390), which collects comics that ran from 1989-1990, including the beginning of Chris Claremont and Jim Lee’s run toward X-Men #1. Includes Uncanny X-Men (1981) #256-268 & Annual (1970) #14 and material from Fantastic Four Annual (1963) #23, X-Factor Annual (1986) #5 and the New Mutants Annual (1984) #6.
Super-Villain Team-Up Vol. 1 (391) collects comics from 1975-1980, including Giant-Size Super-Villain Team-Up (1975) #1-2, Super-Villain Team-Up (1975) #1-17, Marvel Spotlight (1971) #27, Avengers (1963) #154-156, Champions (1975) #16 and material from Marvel Preview (1975) #21.
The Mighty Thor Vol. 25 (392) collects Walter Simonson’s run in Thor #360-369, plus Balder the Brave #1-4.
The Tomb of Dracula Vol. 6 (393) collects The Tomb of Dracula #56-70, with work by Marvel Wolfman, Gen Colan, and Tom Palmer.
