Disney Publishing announced a new WEBTOON initiative at D23 this past weekend: Disney Cursed Love, a romantasy line featuring stories about the romantic ups and downs of famous Disney characters. The series kicks off with The Curse of a Forsaken Heart, by best-selling romance writer Emily McIntire and artist Saimaru, in which Belle and the Beast are transported through a stained-glass window into a world where everyone is cursed to live without love. Together they must work to not only regain their own love for each other but also lift the curse from the kingdom’s princess, which affects her whole realm. The story will run on WEBTOON first, and Disney will release a print version in 2027.
“If you’re a Disney fan, you’ll get that nostalgic feeling — Belle and her prince are there, living happily ever after, and then they’re pulled into this world with new characters. I love putting in Easter eggs that give you that butterfly feeling from the first time you fell in love with these legendary Disney characters, and hopefully fans fall in love with these new characters just as much,” McIntire said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
“That’s what WEBTOON does — taking what Marvel did traditionally and finding a new way to tell it, adding the most kinetic energy, controlling the pacing so you feel like the Vulture’s flying and Spider-Man’s falling, the same feelings you get watching a film like Brand New Day,” Marvel Editor C.B. Cebulski said at the D23 panel.

- Star Wars: Visions The Ronin and the Droid (2024)
- Disney Villains Hades (2023)
- Disney Villains Maleficent (2023)
- Disney Villains Ursula (2026)
- Gravity Falls: Lost Legends (2018)
- The Ultimates (2024)
At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced three new original series that will run on WEBTOON (see “Marvel, WEBTOON, Announce Original Series”).
