'X-Men '97' Gets Prelude Miniseries for Season Two

X-Men ’97: Season Two, a comic book prelude to the second season of the Marvel Animation series X-Men ’97, is coming June 2026.

The five-issue series leads directly from the end of the first season to the start of season two, coming this summer to Disney+. X-Men ’97: Season Two is by writer Steve Foxe and artist Salva Espin; the two also worked together on the prelude comic series for season one (see “Comics Tie-In to ‘X-Men ’97’“).

After season one, some X-Men are lost in time, while others are left in a world that hates mutants. Said Foxe, “the team left us one heck of an era-spanning cliffhanger, and our prequel for Season Two doesn’t take any cheats or shortcuts around that wild status quo. We got to work closely with the series team to make sure this comic is a vital, additive experience for our mutants.”

Issue #1 is on sale June 3, with the main cover by Todd Nauck, variants by Jhony Caballero, Natacha Bustos, and Dan Jurgen, a virgin variant by an artist to be announced, and a Marvel Animation variant cover.
