'Fort Psycho' Emphasizes Physical Comic Issues

Fort Psycho by writer Matt Kindt and artist Brian Hurtt will have cardstock covers with special colors, emphasizing the physical issue release.

Fort Psycho is part of Kindt’s Flux House imprint, which partnered with Oni Press in fall 2025 (see Matt Kindt Moves Flux House Imprint to Oni Press“). It’s the story of former super-spies convicted of murder after a terrorist clean-up operation gone wrong, trying to find the truth about their mission in an island prison full of killers.

The “Psycho Vision” approach, aimed at giving an “aggressive and high intensity” feeling, includes

  • Pantone-keyed covers that use colors that couldn’t be printed under the standard CMYK process
  • Heavy cardstock covers
  • Issues with exclusive back matter and free of external advertising
  • Curse words
  • An emphasis on driving readers to print instead of digital

The 12-issue Fort Psycho series launches in August 2026 with a double-sized 40-page first issue. Series covers are by co-creator Brian Hurtt, with variants and B&W variants by Lewis LaRosa, and more to be announced later.

Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson described the series as combining “the kinetic, Saturday Morning energy of G.I. Joe with meticulous pacing and deep characterization of Watchmen with 12 issues of action-packed storytelling from the creators of Mind MGMT and The Sixth Gun.”

A prelude appears in the Mind MGMT / Fort Psycho FCBD 2026 Special. This new short story introduces commandos Shiv, Lycan, and Dragonfly, appearing alongside a new, self-contained introduction to Kindt’s Mind MGMT: New & Improved #1.
