Taschen Publishing ‘Hal Foster’s Tarzan: The Complete Sunday Comics 1931–1937’

Taschen is publishing Hal Foster’s Tarzan: The Complete Sunday Comics 1931–1937.

Hal Foster began adapting Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan of the Apes in 1928, creating one of the first adventure comic strips. Sixty episodes were published as a daily newspaper strip.  They were followed by the 292 full-page color Sunday comics reprinted here from original newspaper pages, “preserving the vintage Ben Day dot coloring.”

Hal Foster went on to create his masterpiece, Prince Valiant, which has been reprinted by Fantagraphics (see “Fantagraphics Gets Two Adventure Strips “).  Taschen has previously reprinted Marvel (see “Taschen and Marvel Team Up“) and EC Comics (see “Taschen to Release ‘History of EC Comics’“).

Hal Foster’s Tarzan: The Complete Sunday Comics 1931–1937 will be out in May 2026 as a 392-page hardcover for $200.
