All of the Top 20 manga of 2025 were either shonen or seinen, and most had an anime adaptation helping them along, according to Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for the full year 2025 (1/2/2025 – 1/3/2026) provided to ICv2.
VIZ Media continued to dominate the chart, with 15 of the 20 titles, although that’s fewer than last year, when it had 18 out of 20 (see “Full Year 2024 Circana BookScan“). In addition to Dark Horse Comics, which placed two deluxe volumes of Berserk on the chart (same as last year), Kodansha Comics placed the first volumes of Gachiakuta and Blue Lock in the Top 20 and Yen Press got in with the first volume of The Summer Hikaru Died.
Another similarity: Almost every title had an anime adaptation; the sole exceptions were Kagurabachi and Part 7 of JoJo’s Bizarre Advanture (although other parts have been adapted into anime). Theatrical films, including Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc (see “‘Chainsaw Man’ Carves Up BO“) and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (see “‘Demon Slayer’ Slays Again”), as well as streaming anime (Gachiakuta, Jujutsu Kaisen, The Summer Hikaru Died) clearly brought in new readers, as can be seen from the number of first volumes on the chart.
