Pantheon has acquired a new manga by Gengoroh Tagame, Fish and Water, a romantic comedy about two men who meet at a wedding, become friends, and then grow closer as they cope with the strictures of the COVID pandemic. The 192-page hardcover will go on sale on June 23, 2026, with an MSRP of $30.00.
Tagame’s first published work in the U.S. was erotic gay manga (see “Fantagraphics Plans ‘Massive’”), but he moved into the mainstream with the YA manga My Brother’s Husband, which won a 2018 Eisner Award (see “‘My Brother’s Husband’ to Be Omnibized”). He followed that with a teen coming-of-age story, Our Colors (see “New LGBTQ Manga Coming from Gengoroh Tagame”). Like Fish and Water, both the latter titles were published by Pantheon, the Penguin Random House imprint that also publishes graphic novels by Craig Thompson (see “‘Ginseng Roots’”), Charles Burns (see “Pantheon to Publish Charles Burns’s ‘Final Cut’”), and many others (see “Ben Passmore, Mattie Lubchansky, Raymond Chandler”).
