Devir Games will release a revised edition of Ace of Spades, which will hit retail in May 2026.

One of the biggest dust-ups, as far as board game controversies went in 2025, revolved around the release of Ace of Spades. The designers of the game intended to make references to the film Django Unchained via cards that had depictions of an enslaved African American and an enslaver. However, these cards ended up being interpreted by fans as inappropriate and a trivialization of the plight enslaved people during the Wild West era of American history.

Devir promptly apologized for their gaffe and recalled the product shortly after its launch at Gen Con 2025 (see “Devir Recalling ‘Ace of Spades’“). In 2026, Devir will reboot Ace of Spades, and release it into U.S. markets as revised edition without the inappropriate cards. In this card game, players utilize a poker mechanic to battle the nightmares of the Wild West. It is for one to two players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 40 minutes; the MSRP for this game is $24.99.

Alongside the base game’s reboot, Devir will release Ace of Spades: Call of the Zombie. This is a 15-card expansion pack that includes new zombie enemies and four versions of a boss monster, the Hellbilly. It will retail for $9.99.
