Oni Press has hired Sam Kusek for the newly created position of Director of Business Development. Kusek will be responsible for overseeing Oni’s crowdfunding efforts and ecommerce initiatives as well as developing inbound and outbound licensing programs for comics and graphic novels, tabletop and video games, collectibles, and more.
Kusek comes to Oni from his previous position as Senior Outreach Lead for Kickstarter (see “ICv2 Interview: Sam Kusek”), where he supervised the launch of over 1,200 comics and graphic novel campaigns. Before that, he was Special Projects Manager at BOOM! Studios and Operations Manager for Tiny Onion. He also owns the boutique TTRPG publisher Cave of Monsters Games.
Kusek’s hiring comes at a key time for Oni, which recently inked a licensing deal with Archie Comics (see “Archie Licenses IP to Oni Press”), concluded a $1.75 million Kickstarter campaign for a Murder Drones graphic novel (see “‘Murder Drones’ Heads to Comic Shops”), and announced a partnership with Matt Kindt for his Flux House imprint that will include media development of Flux House properties (see “Matt Kindt Moves Flux House to Oni”).
