Dark Horse Comics will publish ElfQuest: Hidden Years Gallery Edition, which will collect the first five issues of the first ElfQuest series designed to be published in full color. Artist Wendy Pini created the artwork for the 1990 series in watercolor, and the Gallery Edition will present the pages unlettered in order to convey the full impact of the originals, which are now part of Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Collection. Each of the first five issues of ElfQuest: Hidden Years is a standalone story, and the artwork is reproduced with margin notes and color tests, along with other background material. The 176-page hardcover, with a trim size of 12 1/8” x 17”, will go on sale on July 14, 2026, with an MSRP of $149.99.
Dark Horse published ElfQuest: The Original Quest Gallery Edition, with scans of Pini’s original black-and-white art, in 2014 (see “‘ElfQuest’ Gallery Edition”), and they published their first color collections of ElfQuest in 2025 (see “Dark Horse to Release Color ‘Elfquest’ Collections”).
