Venerable comic anthology Negative Burn is returning to the comics market via crowdfunding with a new campaign from Desperado Publishing on Zoop that includes a retailer tier. An all-star talent roster includes Mike Allred, Marguerite Bennett, Brian Bolland, Mike Carey, J.M. DeMatteis, Francesco Francavilla, Phil Hester, Joe Jusko, Sam Kieth, Joe Linsner, Ron Marz, Peter Milligan, Steve Niles, Dan Panosian, Paul Pope, Joe Pruett, James Robinson, Declan Shalvey, Dalibor Talajic, and others.
Six regular covers, by Francesco Francavilla, Sam Kieth, Joe Linsner, Dan Panosian, Joe Jusko, and Juan Doe, are planned, all included in the retailer tier. The anthology is set at an initial 64 pages, with the possibility to go to 80 pages with stretch goals.
The original Caliber Press Negative Burn launched in 1993 with Joe Pruett as editor and ran for 50 issues plus collections, collecting multiple Eisner, Harvey, Gem and Eagle Award Nominations. Desperado Publishing, with Pruett as president, relaunched Negative Burn as an Image Comics title in 2006, where it ran for 21 issues and collections. Desperado did some time as a self-distributed line and then spent time as an IDW Publishing imprint beginning in 2009 (see “Desperado Joins IDW“). Pruett took a side trip to then-new publisher Aftershock beginning in 2015 (see “New Publisher Formed“), but has now returned to Desperado and the title he first edited in 1993.
