Asmodee will acquire a 45% stake in Exploding Kittens in 2026, completing the acquisition that began in 2021. The 2021 investment (see “Asmodee Invests”) was for 55% of the company, leaving the founders, game designer Elan Lee and webcomic The Oatmeal creator Matthew Inman, and The Chernin Group, which invested in 2019, with the remaining share.
Asmodee has now exercised its call option to complete the transaction. The price will be based on Exploding Kitten’s operational performance in 2025. Asmodee indicated its intention to complete the acquisition with its most recent quarterly financials in November (see “Asmodee Reports Sales Increases”). Exploding Kittens operations are already integrated into the Asmodee Group, according to the announcement.
Exploding Kittens launched three new games last summer (see “Exploding Kittens Announces Three Games”).
