'Mister Magic,' Ukraine, Cocktails, and Post-Apocalyptic Romance

Ten Speed Graphic has released its Spring 2026 catalog, which includes an eclectic mix of fiction and non-fiction.

Mister Magic: The Graphic Novel is a graphic adaptation of Kiersten White’s best-selling horror novel about former child stars whose show ended abruptly after a tragic incident; 30 years later, they gather in the desert where the show was filmed and confront both mystery and peril.  The novel was originally published in 2023.  The graphic novel is adapted by Scott Peterson with art by Veronica Fish and Andy Fish and will be released on June 9, 2026, as a 256-page paperback with an MSRP of $24.99.

A Brief History of a Long War, written by scholar and journalist Mariam Naiem with art by Yulia Vus and Ivan Kypibida, is a compact history of Ukraine and its struggles with its neighbors (predominantly Russia), told in flashbacks as modern-day Ukrainians shelter from the bombs falling on their city.  Far from a dry recitation of dates and kings, the history shows how the shifting politics of the region affected ordinary Ukrainians at the time and into the present day.  The 112-page hardcover will be released on January 27, 2026, with an MSRP of $19.99.

Let’s Make Cocktails! is Sarah Becan’s latest foray into comics about consumables and follows her earlier Let’s Make Ramen! and Let’s Make Dumplings! (see “Gift Guide: Young Adult Graphic Novels”).  True to its title, Let’s Make Cocktails! includes the basics of barware, ingredients, and techniques, as well as recipes for 60 classic mixed drinks and a bit of history and lore as well.  The 192-page paperback will be released on April 7, 2026, with an MSRP of $22.00.

Salvage, by Renee Nault, is a YA romance set in a world where sea levels have risen above the highest skyscrapers and society is sharply divided into the haves, who live lives of privilege and freedom in the Uplands, and the have-nots, who scavenge the depths of the wrecked world in a low-lying, waterlogged area known as the Flats.  The story follows a boy from the Flats who finds romance, and innumerable complications, after a visit to the Uplands. Nault was the artist for the Eisner-nominated graphic adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale (see “‘Handmaid’s Tale’”); for Salvage, she uses a fully painted watercolor style.  The 256-page book will be released on July 21, 2026, as a hardcover with an MSRP of $25.99 and a paperback with an MSRP of $19.99.

Ten Speed Press previously announced Wake Now in the Fire, by Jarrett Dapier and AJ Dungo, an account of the student movement to restore Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis to the Chicago Public Schools after administrators ordered it removed (see “YA Graphic Novel”).  Also on the spring list is the third volume of Wendy Martin’s webtoon Castle Swimmer, which was nominated for a 2025 Harvey Award.
