VIZ Media Data Breach - Report

A hacker group has offered to sell the  contents of a Google Drive and other data belonging to a senior executive at VIZ Media, some 250 GB in all, according to Cybernews, an independent media outlet focused on data security issues.  Cybernews posted a screenshot of the post by the attackers on an underground data leak forum, which lists a variety of sensitive business information in the data, including master licensing agreements, future business plans and projects, invoices, royalty statements, emails, NDAs, PDF keys, and employee credentials.  The attacker posted a data sample and asks for a minimum five-figure sum for the full set.

Cybernews “…uses white-hat hacking techniques to find and safely disclose cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities across the online world,” according to its website.

The report, dated Thursday, October 30, said the media outlet had contacted VIZ for comment.  We asked a VIZ spokesperson about the hacker post today and were told there was nothing to report relative to the questions we asked, and that “…the matter is being looked into.”
