Fantagraphics is planning to expand its publishing of comics from Asia by launching a new imprint with a 2026 list. The new imprint name, Takumigraphics, combines the second half of Fantagraphics with the Japanese word Takumi, which has the double meaning of excellence, skillfulness, adroitness, and ingeniousness and a person who has those characteristics.
In addition to manga, the imprint will also publish works from Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines, and other Asian countries. Conrad Groth, Eric Reynolds, and Gary Groth explained the grouping of titles in a communication about the launch. “While this represents a wide range of nuanced cultures and backgrounds, comics from these countries often share an aesthetic and visual language that we believe readers will recognize and appreciate,” they wrote.
