Arcane Wonders Tests Logic with Two New Card Games

Arcane Wonders is releasing a pair of new card games, Number Chain and If Then, both now on pre-order.

In Number Chain, created by designer Woojin Yang, the goal is to string together number cards by matching the ones digit to the other card’s tens digit, chaining them one by one.  The goal is to get rid of all of their cards before the other players can, and players can play all of the cards they can successfully chain together each turn in pursuit of that goal.  Players earn penalties based on the value of the cards they have left at the end of each hand, and the one with the fewest points after three hands wins the game.  The design uses a system of color-coding to help players make matches on the cards to streamline gameplay.

The game comes with a game board, a condition tile for tracking which type of matches are being made, and 63 game cards.  It is intended for two to four players, ages 10 and up, and plays in about 20 minutes. MSRP is $19.99.  Produced in partnership with Korea Board Games.

If Then is a cooperative game in which one player takes on the role of “knower,” who knows the custom rule for the round and tells the rest of the group whether their guesses are right or wrong.  The other players add cards to the display to make their guesses, trying to match the hidden rule so they can play all of their cards before the draw pile runs out. For a more competitive game, a “hidden traitor” can be added to the mix.

If Then was created by Scott Bardy (Boop, Hues and Cues).  For two to six players, ages 10 and up.  Plays in about 20 minutes.  MSRP $17.99.

Arcane Wonders is also offering three new board games in the next few months (see “Arcane Wonders Announces ‘Leylines’, ‘Buffet Boss’” and “Help Toto the Cat Find His Mother in ‘Cat and the Tower’”).
