New Superhero Collections, Romance Manhwa, and Sports Manga Bring Variety to the Best-Seller List
There’s more variety than usual on the charts of the Top 20 best-selling Superhero, Author, and Manga graphic novels according to Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for September 2025 (8/31/25 – 10/4/25) provided to ICv2.
The Superhero Top 20 once again reflects the success of DC Comics and Marvel Comics recent innovations, with the paperback and hardcover editions of Absolute Batman topping the chart and the paperbacks of Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman placing at numbers 6 and 10, respectively. The hardcover editions of those two, which also made the August 2025 chart (see “August 2025 Circana BookScan“), have dropped off the September chart.
DC dominates the chart, with 14 of the top 20 sellers, including eight Compact Comics editions and a smattering of older titles. Marvel has only four, including two Ultimate titles and one from their Premier Collection.

Two new manhwa series debut in the Author Top 20, Painter of the Night and Roses and Champagne, along with Vol. 6 of The Dangerous Convenience Store and Vol. 2 of Under the Oak Tree. That means there are four romance and BL titles on the chart, an unusually large presence.
Action titles are still well represented, though, with the newest volume of Solo Leveling in the top spot and another seven below, as well as three volumes of Invincible. For both series, that’s a respectable showing but not as much as the previous month.
The new MrBallen Presents hardcover is in second place, and the chart also includes a number of older standalone titles, including the 2009 graphic adaptation of Fahrenheit 451.

The Manga chart is a mix of shonen titles, including the usual Shonen Jump series, the soccer manga Blue Lock, and the horror story The Summer Hikaru Died. The difference here is that VIZ Media is less dominant than usual, with Kodansha taking five slots on the chart and Yen Press two, in addition to the perennially best-selling Dark Horse Comics Berserk Deluxe Vol. 1.
