Humanoids Files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

2025 will go down as the year of lawsuits and court filings for the comic industry. The latest is Humanoids which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on October 13 in Delaware Bankruptcy Court. The debtor is listed as “HC Wind Down Corporation” aka Humanoids Corporation. The publisher is located on Los Angeles.

The filing checks off that a “partner or affiliate of the debtor” also has a bankruptcy case pending, a reference to the ongoing bankruptcy case of Diamond Comic Distributors and its affiliated companies.

The number of creditors is listed between 1 and 49 and Humanoids has assets of $50,000 or less. However, the liabilities range between $10,000,000 and $50,000,000.

It’s been a rough year for Humanoids as a whole. The French part of the company, Les Humanoïdes Associés, went into receivership in July. It was founded in 1974 by Mœbius, Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Philippe Druillet and Bernard Farkas and purchased in 1988 by Fabrice Giger. In 1999 the US arm of the company was founded. It was owned by Hachette at the time. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in June 2025 and at the same time didn’t pay its June salaries, and instead went into compulsory liquidation with hopes of restructuring.

Humanoids has been part of the Diamond chapter 11 debacle and had filed an objection to Diamond’s attempt to sell consigned inventory. While that might not be the cause of Humanoids’ problem it was likely a factor in the chapter 7 filing. In January, Humanoids filed for chapter 11 themselves.

The case # is 1:25-bk-11827 in Delaware Bankruptcy Court. A list of creditors will come in the following weeks.
