Sara Frazetta to Write 'Fire and Ice: Nekron'

Sara Frazetta, Frank Frazetta’s granddaughter, will write a special issue of Fire and Ice, the Dynamite comic based on the film by Frank Frazetta and Ralph Bakshi. Frequent Conan the Barbarian artist Geof Isherwood will be the artist for the one-shot, Fire and Ice: Nekron, which will tell the origin story of the tyrannical ruler of Icepeak. Dynamite will release the 28-page comic on December 24, 2025, with covers by Dan Panosian, Jae Lee, and Steve E. Gordon. The publisher will also offer a blind bag containing two issues, a Blank Authentix edition and one of five blind-bag exclusive variants. The standard edition is priced at $5.99 and the blind-bag edition at $15.00.

“When I started writing Nekron, I rewatched Fire and Ice a few times and focused on the shadowy spaces in the plot,” Sara Frazetta said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “I’m the kind of person who always needs to know why, so an origin story was right up my alley.”

The 1983 film Fire and Ice was developed from the art of Frank Frazetta, written by comics writers Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas, and animated by Bakshi. Dynamite announced in 2022 that it had acquired the rights to develop properties based on the film (see “Dynamite to Develop Comics and Game based on ‘Fire and Ice’”) and has released a prequel series (see “Bill Willingham to Write Prequel”) as well as several other comics and a RPG board game (see “Dynamite Offers ‘Fire and Ice’ Game”).
