Cryptozoic Conjures 'Cats of Catthulhu'

Cryptozoic Collective has partnered with Pan-Universal Galactic Worldwide to distribute Joel Sparks’ Cats of Catthulhu 10th Anniversary Edition, a feline-themed role playing game inspired by the horror of H.P. Lovecraft.

In Cats of Catthulhu, it is revealed that in truth felines rule the world, using “lesser” beings such as humans to ensure a life of comfort and ease for cats everywhere. But there is a dark and existential threat to the cat hegemony:  the Lovecraftian Chaos Cults of other animals trying to usurp the cats’ rightful place.  In the game, players assume the role of perfectly ordinary cats who confront these horrors to guarantee a future for kitties, and maybe gather a few treats along the way.

The game is a rules-light tabletop role playing game that uses only two six-sided dice to play and without requiring any math.  The game was originally released in 2014, and has sold over 15,000 books to date.  The new 10th Anniversary Edition features updated and expanded rules, offered in full-color hardcover format for the first time.  In addition to rules for cat character creation and gameplay, ready-to-play adventures are included in the 220-page book.  MSRP $59.99.

A 136-page softcover adventure book, De Felis Mysteriis will also be available, with an additional 10 adventures for use with the game.  MSRP $34.99.  A boxed set with both books has an MSRP of $99.99.

The Cats of Catthulhu 10th Anniversary Edition was funded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2024 that attracted 868 backers to pledge $75,325 (an average of $86.78 per backer).

Next month, Cryptozoic Entertainment will also release Food Fight:  Reheated (see “‘Food Fight’ Gets ‘Reheated’”).
