Gifts Week 2025: Gifts for Anime and Manga Fans

Manga is hotter than ever, thanks to streaming anime on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll that bring new readers to the source material, and that means plenty of possibilities for gifts: Boxed sets for binge-readers, artbooks for fans of a particular creator, and other books that allow fans to dig deeper into their favorite works. Here’s a look at new and upcoming titles in all three categories.

Boxed Sets

Witch Hat Atelier Manga Box Set 1 collects the first six volumes of Kamome Shirahama’s Eisner- and Harvey-winning tale of a girl at a school for witches. The series, which is rated for readers 10 and up, is set in a magical world and drawn in a style reminiscent of classic children’s books. An anime adaptation was announced for 2025 (see “Manga with Upcoming Anime”) but the producer, Studio Bug, has just announced it will be delayed until 2026. The boxed set, which includes an exclusive set of art cards, is available now. (Kodansha, MSRP: $79.99)

Disney Manga: The Pixar Collection is a quartet of manga adaptations of Monsters, Inc., Wall-E, Toy Story,and Finding Nemo, rated for ages 5-9. Like most manga, these paperbacks read from right to left. The boxed set is available now. (Tokyopop; MSRP: $34.99)

Disney Twisted-Wonderland: The Manga – Book of Heartslabyul Complete Box Set contains the four volumes of manga by Wakana Hazuki and Sumire Kowono based on the mobile game Disney Twisted-Wonderland. The Teen-rated boxed set includes a bonus mini poster and will be released on September 16, 2025. (VIZ Media; MSRP: $50.00).

Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Complete Box Set includes the 13-volume series by Yuji Kaku plus an 80-page book, exclusive to the boxed set, that includes the epilogue story “Forest of Misfortune.” The Mature-rated boxed set will be available on October 28. (VIZ Media; MSRP: $189.99)

Fruits Basket: The Complete Box Set includes all 12 volumes of the series, with new covers plus a set of lenticular cards (see “Yen Press Announces ‘Fruits Basket’ Boxed Set”). This Teen-rated supernatural romance about a girl and a cursed family was a best-seller when it was first published by Tokyopop in the mid-2000s; Yen Press brought it back in 2015 with a new translation and a new, 12-volume format (see “‘Fruits Basket’ Returns”). The boxed set will be released on November 25. (Yen Press; MSRP: $240.00)

Art Books

The Art of Rumiko Takahashi: Colors 1978-2024 includes Takahashi’s original art from her most popular series, including Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, and Inuyasha, as well as a long-form interview with Takahashi about her process, comments and anecdotes about the artwork, and a selection of her favorite panels. The 400-page hardcover will go on sale on September 30. (VIZ Media; MSRP: $60.00)

CLAMP Official Artbook: COLOR KURO and CLAMP Official Artbook: COLOR SHIRO are twin paperback artbooks featuring the work of the famed all-female supergroup (see “Kodansha, Yen Press to Publish Twin CLAMP Art Books”), including full-color artwork from RG Veda, Tokyo Babylon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and more. Yen Press will publish KURO, and Kodansha will publish SHIRO, both on November 18. (MSRP: $55)

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian: Momoco’s Art Book is a collection of the artwork from the first eight volumes of the light novel series by writer SunSunSun and artist Momoco. The novels were subsequently adapted into manga and anime. In addition to the novel illustrations, the book includes promotional artwork and an exclusive short story by SunSunSun. It will be released on December 16. (Yen Press; MSRP: $35.00)

Other Books

Castle in the Sky: The Official Cookbook features recipes inspired by the Studio Ghibli film, including Sheeta’s stew and Etherium Crystal Agar Candy, with step-by-step instructions and photographs, along with stills from the film and a retelling of the story itself. The 64-page hardcover will be released on October 28. (VIZ Media; MSRP: $17.00)

My Life in 24 Frames per Second is the autobiography in manga form of the anime director Rintaro, whose career took him to Toei, Madhouse, and Osamu Tezuka’s Mushi Production, directing an influential catalog of anime ranging from Astro Boy to Metropolis. Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo contributed a foreword to this 256-page hardcover, which will be released on October 7. (Abrams/Kana; MSRP: $29.99)

The Art of Manga, by Nicole Coolidge Rousmaniere, published to coincide with last summer’s exhibit of the same name at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, presents the work of ten manga artists, along with essays, interviews, and historical information. The 400-page paperback will go on sale on November 25.
