French President Emmanuel Macron Delivers Message to 'Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG' Players

French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a message to Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG players at the opening ceremony of Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2025.

It is possible that TCG influence over pop culture has reached a major turning point as the French President offered his thoughts on how proud he was to have France as the host nation for the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2025.  Macron said the following to Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG fans around the world watching the event online:

“I know that this is an important day for Yu-Gi-Oh! and the entire world of TCGs, which is gathered in France and it is a great source of pride for us to host the World Championships of your discipline, to have all the enthusiasts from around the world gathered in France, to live out their passion, their games, their universe. I also want to tell you how much I have confidence in the TCG and the perspective it offers, and I hope that France will become more and more involved.”

Having the President of France deliver an address for a TCG event is unprecedented, and is on-par with something that might occur for the Olympics or the French Open.  Even the WWE, which packed the Paris La Defense Arena for Clash in Paris over the Labor Day weekend, didn’t receive this kind of Presidential attention.  It is an instance that indicates just how hot TCGs are in 2025 worldwide.

All that said, kudos to Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG for being the first TCG recognized for excellence by a major world leader within the NATO alliance!

At the tournament, itself, Julien Kehon (USA) defeated Tom Kleinegraeber (Germany) to become the 2025 World Champion. U.S. players have won three Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships in a row.
