The RSVP planner in Pokémon GO can now be used for Gigantamax Battles

New content and features are continuing to be announced for Pokémon GO on a regular basis. Read on below to learn more:

Fly high with the Gigantamax debut of the Butterfly Pokémon.

Gigantamax Butterfree is fluttering fiercely into the spotlight in Pokémon GO’s Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battle Day, which takes place on August 3, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During this time, the Bug- and Flying-type Pokémon originally discovered in Kanto will appear in Gigantamax Battles, with fortunate Trainers potentially encountering a Shiny Butterfree.

Max out your Pokémon GO Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battle Day experience with these event bonuses.

  • Max Particle collection limit increased to 1,600
  • All Power Spots will host Gigantamax Battles
  • Power Spots refresh more frequently
  • 8× Max Particles from Power Spots
  • Two additional Special Trades
  • The daily Remote Raid limit will increase from 10 to 20 (August 2 at 5:00 p.m. to August 3, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. PDT)
  • 2× Max Particles from exploring (August 3 from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time)
  • 1/4 Adventuring distance to receive Max Particles (August 3 from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time)

Make the most of your Butterfree battling with Timed Research available leading up to the event. From July 28, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. to August 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. local time, you can complete Timed Research to earn an encounter with Dynamax Darumaka. Other rewards include Candy and Max Particles. Trainers can also purchase a ticket for event-exclusive Timed Research for US$4.99 (or the equivalent pricing in your local currency). Completing paid Timed Research earns rewards including one Max Mushroom and 25,000 XP, and it includes additional event bonuses such as 2× XP from Max Battles and an increased Max Particle collection limit of 5,600.

Six-star Gigantamax Battles in Pokémon GO are notoriously challenging, with each battle requiring between 20 and 40 Trainers to secure a victory. Trainers can now use the RSVP planner and Remote Raid Passes for Max Battles against Gigantamax Pokémon, making it easier to gather enough Trainers to defeat this powerful Max Pokémon.

Because of the challenge level, it’s a good idea not to just wing it with your battle team. As a Bug- and Flying-type Pokémon, Gigantamax Butterfree is vulnerable to Fire-, Electric-, Ice-, Flying-, and Rock-type attacks. Trainers can only use Dynamax Pokémon, Gigantamax Pokémon, Crowned Sword Zacian, or Crowned Shield Zamazenta in Gigantamax Battles, and you’ll be most successful if you pick Pokémon that know attacks with these types.

While Gigantamax Pokémon have a fixed G-Max Attack, Dynamax Pokémon have a Max Move attack type that matches the type of their Fast Attack. So, if you have Dynamax Pokémon that you think would be a good Gigantamax Butterfree counter, be sure they know a Fire-, Electric-, Ice-, Flying-, or Rock-type Fast Attack. Leveling up your team’s attacks prior to battle will help ensure that they deal maximum damage against their powerful foe. Strengthening and evolving your Pokémon prior to the Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battle Day will also allow you to focus on taking on as many Gigantamax Butterfree Max Battles as possible.

Gigantamax Pokémon that might make good counters to Gigantamax Butterfree include Charizard, Lapras, and Cinderace. For dynamite Dynamax additions, consider Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Shuckle, Raikou, Entei, and Cryogonal.

If you need a damage boost, consider Max Mushrooms. These items temporarily double all damage from your Pokémon in Max Battles. Using more than one Max Mushroom lengthens the duration of the increased damage, but it will not multiply the damage. You can access your Max Mushrooms from your Item Bag while in the Max Battle lobby. And if you need another boost, Crowned Sword Zacian’s Adventure Effect, Behemoth Blade, increases your Pokémon’s attack during Max Battles.
