Nakama Press to Publish Two Graphic Novels from Hong Kong

Mad Cave has announced two new acquisitions in its Nakama Press line, both from Hong Kong.

Cat Mask Boy, by Linus Liu, is a one-shot graphic novel set in the 1970s that follows a young boy, Tiger, who always wears a homemade cat mask because he plans to be a superhero someday.  When his report card goes missing, Tiger ventures into the notorious Kowloon Walled City to retrieve it.  Kowloon is a dangerous place, but along the way Tiger meets a friend, Dragon, who becomes an ally.  The book, which reads from right to left, is drawn in a simple, expressive style, with bold lines and a muted palette on a lightly textured background.  The 192-page paperback will be released on October 14, 2025, with an MSRP of $10.99.

A Little Step, by Mimi Szeto, is based on the author’s own life. Set in Hong Kong in the 2000s, it’s the story of a high school friendship between a girl who is a talented artist and a boy who plays guitar as they encourage each other to follow their dreams.  The story, which is rated 13+ and reads from right to left, will appeal to fans of Blue Period and Whisper Me a Love Song. Nakama Press will publish the first volume, which stands on its own, as a 176-page paperback on November 4, 2025, with an MSRP of $10.99.

Nakama Press published another title from Hong Kong, Indigo, in May (see “Exclusive: Mad Cave Announces First Title in Nakama Press Imprint”).
