How to unlock the potential of two Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals decks in Pokémon TCG Live

The Pokémon Company is continuing to reveal new Pokémon TCG products. Read on below to learn more:

Discover how to unlock the potential of two devastating decks in Pokémon TCG Live.

Get more from Pokémon TCG Live when you use the in-game Battle Pass. With the Battle Pass, you can complete quests to earn experience and unlock new tiers by playing Ranked or Casual matches—no exchanging for Trainer Points necessary! Each Battle Pass is accessible only until the next expansion releases.

Begin your path along the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals Battle Pass with a new deck featuring Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex. Advance through the Battle Pass to unlock booster packs, Collector Crates, Trainer Points, Trade Credits, a full suite of deck cosmetics, and up to 16 additional cards that can be swapped into this deck!

Halfway through the Battle Pass, you’ll unlock a new deck centered around Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex. You can also earn 16 more cards that can be used to bling out your deck; try to collect them all!

Let’s learn how to play these powerful decks in Pokémon TCG Live.

Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex’s Golden Flame Ability empowers your team, letting you attach 2 Basic Fire Energy from your hand to 1 of your Benched Ethan’s Pokémon. Try to have at least 2 copies of this Legendary Pokémon in play so that you can attach up to 5 Energy each turn (2 for each Golden Flame and 1 attachment for turn).

3 Ethan’s Magcargo DRI 036
3 Ethan’s Slugma DRI 035

4 Superior Energy Retrieval
4 Ultra Ball
3 Nest Ball
2 Earthen Vessel
2 Switch
1 Max Rod
1 Super Rod
Energy: 11
11 Basic Fire Energy

Use a few Golden Flame Abilities to load up your primary attacker, Ethan’s Magcargo, as its Lava Burst attack can discard up to 5 Fire Energy from itself to do up to 350 damage! After melting your foes, Ethan’s Magcargo can Melt Away, letting it retreat for free while it has no Energy attached. You can repeat this process with another Ethan’s Magcargo.

Both Mew ex and Fezandipiti ex have Abilities that can draw cards to find either Basic Energy or cards that can get you some. For example, Earthen Vessel can search your deck for 2 Basic Energy at the cost of a card. Discard a card stuck in your hand so Mew ex can draw an extra card with its Restart Ability. You can also use Superior Energy Retrieval to grab Energy in your discard pile or Max Rod, which can get back both Energy and Pokémon.

Another good way to get Energy is with Ethan’s Adventure, a Supporter card that can fetch 3 in any combination of Ethan’s Pokémon or Basic Fire Energy. This can also be a good way to get multiple Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex or part of your Ethan’s Magcargo line. Ethan’s Quilava is another Pokémon to add to your roster: its Bonded by the Journey Ability lets you add an Ethan’s Adventure card from your deck to your hand every turn. Then, once you’ve gone through all of your Ethan’s Adventures, evolve into Ethan’s Typhlosion to Buddy Blast for up to 280 damage!

This team filled with Ethan’s Pokémon is clearly able to turn up the heat on your opponent, but after you’ve gotten fired up during the first half of the Battle Pass, it’s time to prepare for trouble…

Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex’s Power Saver Ability prevents it from attacking unless you have 4 or more Team Rocket’s Pokémon in play. But restrictions have been placed for a good reason: its Erasure Ball can discard 2 Energy from your Benched Pokémon to do 280 damage. Maximum Belt can raise that cap to 330—enough to Knock Out most Pokémon ex.

Pokémon: 13
3 Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex DRI 081
4 Team Rocket’s Spidops DRI 020
4 Team Rocket’s Tarountula DRI 019
1 Team Rocket’s Articuno DRI 051
1 Team Rocket’s Mimikyu DRI 087
Trainers: 37
4 Team Rocket’s Ariana
4 Team Rocket’s Proton
2 Team Rocket’s Archer
2 Team Rocket’s Giovanni
1 Team Rocket’s Petrel
3 Team Rocket’s Factory
4 Energy Switch
4 Team Rocket’s Transceiver
4 Ultra Ball
3 Earthen Vessel
2 Switch
1 Super Rod
2 Bravery Charm
1 Maximum Belt
Energy: 10
3 Basic Psychic Energy
2 Basic Grass Energy
1 Basic Water Energy
4 Team Rocket’s Energy

Having as many Team Rocket’s Spidops in play as possible can help to break Power Saver’s hold. Its Rocket Rush serves as a strong attack option, and its Charging Up Ability attaches a Basic Energy to itself from your discard pile. Energy from this Ability can power up its attack, be discarded to the effect of Erasure Ball, or moved to your other Pokémon with Energy Switch.

Your deck also includes a full playset of Team Rocket’s Transceiver, which can search your deck for any of the following Supporter cards:

  • Team Rocket’s Proton adds 3 Basic Team Rocket’s Pokémon to your hand (and can be used even if you’re going first!)
  • Team Rocket’s Ariana draws cards until you have 8 in your hand.
  • Team Rocket’s Archer can disrupt your opponent’s hand and draws you 5 new cards.
  • Team Rocket’s Petrel searches for a Trainer, like the Stadium card Team Rocket’s Factory, to draw 2 cards every turn you play a Supporter with “Team Rocket” in its name.
  • Team Rocket’s Giovanni switches your Active Team Rocket’s Pokémon for a Benched one, and then allows you to switch in an opposing Pokémon of your choice. Try to move your Team Rocket’s Mimikyu to the Active Spot with this effect: its free Retreat Cost lets you pivot into any attacker on your Bench.

Finally, Team Rocket’s Energy provides 2 in any combination of Psychic Energy and Darkness Energy while attached to your Team Rocket’s Pokémon. Attaching this to Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex means it only needs 1 extra Energy to attack, or you can attach this to Team Rocket’s Articuno to do extra damage with its Dark Frost attack.

Once you’re in the home stretch of the Battle Pass, you’ll unlock a variety of booster packs, Trainer Points, Trade Credits, cosmetics, and even some Collector Crates. At the end, you’ll even earn some extra cards for your troubles!

Enjoy your new decks, cards, and Battle Pass, Trainers!
