For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is elated to exhibit the mind-blowing illustrations of the sensational Queen Sinx (rua.sinx.shui). She has participated in the fourth, fifth, and sixth generations of Pokédex Ilustrada, the extraordinary project organized by the incredible team of Ilustradoras Unidas.
Explaining what art means in her life is a tricky task for Queen Sinx because “it means everything and nothing at the same time.”
“My life revolves totally around art: it’s my livelihood, and I can express myself through different forms—music, painting, cooking, and dancing. But art doesn’t define my personality or my whole being. Art is my world, but it doesn’t diminish my value as an individual. It is my passion, my thoughts, my expression, and my movement. It’s something so intangible that you can only feel it when you see one of my creations or those of others.”
Pokémon has been a huge influence in her life: “I’ve watched the anime series since I was six years old, from the very beginning. It opened up a world of imagination I never thought I could explore. I come from an ultra-traditional and conservative family, so when they saw the series back in the ’90s, they considered it something negative. Despite everything, I managed to find my way through friendships and my unrelenting desire to learn about Pokémon, play the games, watch the movies and series, and draw those fantastic creatures that had won my heart.”
Creating Pokémon-related art is deeply inspiring and meaningful to her, as the franchise marked one of her first acts of rebellion and her introduction to a fantasy world, creatures, and anime.
“Nowadays, I make my living through art, and I love every part of it. It makes my inner child happy to rekindle that passion from so many years ago. It’s a wonderful feeling,” she shared with the Pokémon Blog Team.
Our talented featured artist has two favorite Pokémon, each representing a different stage in her life.
“Charizard was the beginning of my longstanding fascination with dragons. He is such a great Pokémon—so aesthetically pleasing and lovely. As soon as I saw him, he became something very special to me,” she revealed. “The other one would be Xerneas. It was love at first sight when I got the game. I found him so beautiful and so stoic. He’s everything I could imagine a guardian of the forest to be.”
