RAFM Miniatures and Silver Fox Productions announced that they are closing down after 50 years in the miniatures hobby industry.
This company was started back in 1977 in Paris, Ontario, as RAFM Company Inc. by Jack Van Schaik and John Laing. The company produced lines of 15 mm, 20 mm, and 28 mm scale miniatures for historical campaigns and fictional settings. In the 1980, sculptor Bob Murch became their primary sculptor and stayed on until he founded Pulp Figures in 2002. In 1987, Laing left the company, and later in 1999, the RAFM Company became a subsidiary of Van Schaik’s Silver Fox Productions, moving their HQ to their current location in Brantford, ON.
Their most notable lines include RAFM historical miniatures, RAFM Call of Cthulhu miniatures, and the Baker Company and Charlie Company historical miniatures games. Over the decades, they have also worked with a number of companies, as owner Jack Van Schaik mentioned in his Facebook post announcing the closing:
“Being the largest miniatures producer in Canada gave us the opportunity to work with many great American companies like Ral Partha, FASA, R. Talsorian Games and Reaper Miniatures. We worked hard to bring a wide variety of miniatures and companies to the Canadian market, as well as our produced own Fantasy and Historical lines of miniatures and games.
After pouring our heart and soul into this business for 50 years, with many contributors and partners along the way, we hope that our product lines and proprietary creative works will continue to be available to the market through other sources, those details are still being finalized. Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for your support over the years, it has meant the world to us.”
Van Schaik also mentioned that some of the RAFM lines will be available on their website as digital products. They are for sale to offset the costs of storage and waste containers incurred as they closed down their physical locations.
