Collect cards from the latest expansion, battle in the 2025 Standard format, and get ready for exciting new Trainer Trials.
Updated: May 1, 2025
The latest Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion, Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together, is now playable in Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. This expansion features the return of Trainer’s Pokémon, powerful Pokémon ex, and more that you can collect and incorporate into your deck to battle against players from around the globe. Players can also look forward to battles in both the new Standard format and in alternate formats as exciting new Trainer Trials introduce new kinds of battles.

As a quick reminder, cards with the “F” regulation mark are now no longer legal for play in the 2025 Standard format. You can find more details about which cards are legal for play at the 2025 Pokémon TCG Standard format rotation announcement.
A new legal card pool also means new starter decks in Pokémon TCG Live. Check out a variety of new decks available with the launch of Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together, including Hydreigon ex and Dragapult ex, and reference this handy starter deck strategies article for tips and tricks on how to best pilot them in battle.

Get ready to mix things up! The first new game mode introduced to Pokémon TCG Live has arrived: Trainer Trials. This exciting new way to play the Pokémon TCG can be found in the Casual section of the Home Screen and features a rotating selection of Trials, each with unique deck-building rules. Trials rotate on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. PDT and typically last one or two weeks.
Each new Trial features different restrictions for the cards that can be used and how they can be added to a deck. These Trials range from brand-new formats such as Singleton Showdown, in which a deck can only contain a single copy of each card (excluding Basic Energy), to fan-favorite formats like Gym Leader Challenge! Find the Trainer Trials schedule for Scarlet & Violet—Journey Together below.
The Pokémon TCG Live game servers recently experienced higher-than-normal latency across the board in areas like gameplay, inventory, code redemption, and shop offers. After seeing this significant impact, the game was taken offline for a bit longer than usual so we could ensure that the experience meets the standards that players deserve.
As the exciting debut of the Gym Leader Challenge Trainer Trial draws near, the development team also wants to make sure it launches in the best possible shape. Therefore, to ensure a smooth and high-quality experience, they’ve made the tough call to postpone its debut by two weeks and swap it with the next Trainer Trial on the schedule.
Through May 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. PDT
- Silver Series, an alternate format in which only common, uncommon, and rare cards (excluding Pokémon with a Rule Box) from the Scarlet & Violet Series can be used in a deck.
May 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. PDT – May 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. PDT
- Gym Leader Challenge, an alternate format that uses the Expanded card pool. In this format, each deck must include Pokémon of only a single type, Pokémon with a Rule Box are not allowed, and only one copy of each card is permitted.
May 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. PDT – May 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. PDT
- CU Cup—Expanded, an alternate format that uses the Expanded card pool. In this format, only common and uncommon cards can be used in a deck.
Please note, Pokémon TCG Live’s Expanded format only supports cards that are currently available to play in Pokémon TCG Live, which includes the Sun & Moon Series and later. The Expanded format used at in-store events includes cards from the Black & White Series and later.
Have fun discovering new cards, building powerful decks, and experiencing new Trainer Trials!
