Decipher Resurfaces Via Cryptozoic Entertainment

Cryptozoic Entertainment and Decipher have inked an agreement that will relaunch the How to Host a Murder party game series.

After more or less disappearing from the games industry scene circa the late-00s (see ‘Decipher Downsizes‘), Decipher Inc. seems to have resurfaced in an attempt to relaunch their once popular How to Host a Murder game series by licensing the time-honored brand to Cryptozoic. The How to Host a Murder was first published in 1985 and had a run of new releases published all the way through 2003. In this game, players took on the roles of suspects after a murder had occurred. They would then roleplay out a light, humorous scenario using a host guide, player manuals, a sheet of secret clues, guest invitations, name tags, diagrams, and more.

“We are pleased to be working with Cryptozoic to revitalize How To Host A Murder with updated packaging and new licensed properties while maintaining the high quality that made it the most recognizable and best-selling dinner party mystery game in the world,” said Decipher CEO Warren Holland.

The first wave of episodes available, via the reboot, for this game will be The Watersdown Affair, Class of ’54, The Chicago Caper, and Saturday Night Cleaver. Cryptozoic also plans to make episodes of the game that feature major licensed IPs. The relaunch is set to occur later on in 2025.
