Ultimate Miles Morales, More Jeff the Land Shark, Spider-Girl Goes Solo, New Era for Captain America

Marvel had plenty of news to announce at this year’s ComicsPRO meeting, including an Ultimate version of Miles Morales, new Jeff the Land Shark and Spider-Girl series, and a new creative team and setting for Captain America.

Miles Morales will enter, or rather, re-enter the Ultimate Universe with Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion, a five-issue limited series by writers Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar and artist Jonas Scharf. Miles Morales debuted in the original Ultimate Universe in 2011 (see “Marvel Unveils New ‘Ultimate Comics’ Spider-Man”) and moved to regular Marvel continuity in 2015 (see “Miles Morales Will Star in Re-Launched ‘Spider-Man’”). In the new series, Miles’ baby sister finds his key to the Ultimate Universe and travels there. Miles goes to get her back, then has to team up with Peter Parker when the Spot attacks. “It’s going to be a series full of rich characters, big firsts, and big swings!” Camp said in a statement accompanying the announcement. The first issue will be released on June 4, 2025, with cover art by Sara Pichelli, who created the character together with Brian Michael Bendis.

Jeff the Land Shark will star in a five-issue limited series by his co-creator, Kelly Thompson, and artist Tokitokoro. A Shadow Jeff is causing trouble, and the lovable land shark has to hunt him down across the Marvel Universe, with humorous mishaps and new friends popping up at every turn. Jeff debuted in a Marvel Infinity comic, It’s Jeff!, and migrated to a print one-shot (see “Marvel’s Jeff the Land Shark Jumps from (Eisner Nominated) Webtoon to Print”), which won the 2024 Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication; he is also a playable character in Marvel Rivals (see “Preview: ‘Marvel Rivals’ Variant Covers”). Jeff the Land Shark will launch on June 4 with a main cover ty Tokitokoro and a variant cover by the It’s Jeff! art team Gurihiru.

“Seeing Jeff rocket to stardom has been wild, and also exactly what he deserves,” Thompson said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “I’m obviously as biased as you can get, but what’s not to love about an adorable land shark that wants to be friends with and/or eat everything he sees?”

The newest iteration of Spider-Girl, who made her debut in Spider-Boy #12 (see “Marvel Unveils Two New Characters”) will go solo in Spider-Girl, a new ongoing series by writer Torunn Grønbekk and artist André Risso. This Spider-Girl, who hails from Hawaii, started her career as the villain Funhouse, a protégé of Bullseye, and absorbed a dark version of spider-powers in a fight with Spider-Boy. The new series will delve into her backstory as well as the full range of her powers and the question of whether she will revert to villainy or remain a true hero, all while she’s being stalked by a menacing Spider-Nemesis. The first issue is set for release on June 11 with a cover by David Nakayama.

“Leaving Bullseye behind, she’s starting fresh in New York, exploring her new home and embracing her powers with fearlessness and a touch of innocence,” Grønbekk said. “She eagerly jumps into fights others would think better of (often against some of our favorite Spidey villains!), and her arrival has definitely caught the attention of the criminal underworld – but maybe not for the reason one would think…”

Captain America will go back to the past when the series restarts with its new creative team, writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Valerio Schiti. The new arc begins with Steve Rogers’ first mission after he awakened from suspended animation and re-enlisted in the army, before he joined the Avengers. Sent to infiltrate Latveria, he encounters Doctor Doom for the first time and must grapple with the new realities that have emerged while he was sleeping in the ice. Captain America #1 will be released on July 2 with a cover by Ben Harvey.

“We’re exploring Cap’s early days in the modern era with a twist that I think is going to really surprise readers!” Zdarsky said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “I’ve been approaching this title the way I approached my run on Daredevil, really trying to get in Cap’s head with a grounded, human look at who he is in this new world. Steve Rogers is the best of us, and I want that to come through on every page.”
