Bloomsbury Launches ‘Marvel Age of Comics’ Series

Bloomsbury has announced a new series of illustrated prose books, the Marvel Age of Comics, which will be similar in concept and format to their 33 1/3 music books: Each one will offer a look at a specific aspect of Marvel comics through both personal narrative and comics history. Individual books will focus on specific characters, storylines, creators, and themes, contrasting them with the larger social movements of the time and illustrating them with full-color images. The books will be available in hardcover, paperback, and audiobook formats.

The first four titles in the series are Doctor Strange: A Decade of Dark Magic by Stuart Moore, The Mighty Avengers vs. the 1970s by Paul Cornell, and Daredevil: Born Again by Chris Ryall, all to be released on November 13, 2025, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales by Ytasha L. Womack, to be published in May 2026.

The series will tell “the stories behind the comics,” said Haaris Naqvi, Director of Publishing at Bloomsbury USA, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Marvel Age of Comics will feature a broad range of writers who are fans, immersed in the world of comics and eager to tell readers what Marvel stories mean to them, as well as to popular culture,” he said.

Abrams ComicArts will offer a different type of deep dive with its upcoming Spider-Man: Panel by Panel (see “A New Look at the Early Days of Spider-Man”).
