Gear up for the 2025 Pokémon GO Europe International Championships!
By Amanda Lundberg, Contributing Writer
The race to Worlds hits the halfway point! Though the 2025 European International Championships (EUIC) mark the first International Championships of the calendar year, they’re definitely not a mere warm-up—they’re a pivotal checkpoint on the road to becoming a world champion! From February 21 to 23, 2025, all eyes will be on London as Trainers compete to gain Championship Points and claim the coveted International crown. After months of intense competition since September, the stakes are now soaring higher than your newly trained Corviknight, and EUIC will have a significant impact on the season’s standings.
Remember that fans can catch all three days of action on Twitch.tv/PokemonGO!
For the first time, the EUIC is being held in February rather than its usual March slot, making this event a groundbreaking start to the year. This edition also follows the introduction of travel stipends for the top competitors in each region, which debuted for Pokémon GO at the 2025 Latin American International Championships (LAIC). A majority of Trainers who received stipends are planning to make the journey to London to showcase their skills and compete at this prestigious event.
And with a record-breaking 400 competitors, this is set to be the largest tournament in Europe thus far! The top four players will earn automatic qualifications for the 2025 Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, this August. However, with a substantial number of Championship Points up for grabs, numerous players are looking to boost their rankings to secure their spots for Worlds.
Let’s take a look at some of the competitors you should be watching throughout the weekend!

So many accolades, so little time! As the only Senior World Champion for Pokémon GO, a Regional Champion, and the reigning 2024 EUIC champion, MEweedle is one of only two Trainers—along with ItsAXN—with three championship titles. His experience and strategic prowess have earned him a reputation as a formidable opponent. However, the question remains: Does he have what it takes to retain his crown and fend off the challenges from a talented field of competitors at this year’s EUIC?

This French player is known as the king of spice picks, and his gameplay is just as dynamic as his choice of Pokémon. Currently at the top of his game in the 2025 season, TontonBatteuse has participated in five tournaments so far, making it to the top cut in four of them. Impressively, he reached the Grand Finals in three of those tournaments and clinched victory at the 2025 Gdańsk Regional. What’s even more remarkable is that he played a different team in each tournament, showcasing his adaptability and innovative strategy. Having won the 2023 EUIC with an unconventional team, fans are eager to see which off-meta surprises he will bring to London!

Revered as the Final Boss, Colin6ix has carved out his legacy as a dominant force in the competitive scene. Heading into the 2025 EUIC, Colin6ix has more Championship Points than any other European Trainer, a testament to his skill and unwavering consistency. As the only Trainer in Europe to have won three Regional Championships, he brings a wealth of experience and a fierce ambition for yet another victory. With the stakes higher than ever, will he elevate his status even further as the region’s premier contender?

It’s hard to catch Zs when Zzweilous is in action, as his matches are always filled with excitement and engaging strategies! Renowned for his talent in analyzing the meta and discovering effective anti-meta picks, Zzweilous is a serious force to be reckoned with this season. With his keen eye for counters and strategic depth, he has already made it to the Grand Finals in two competitions during the 2025 season. Fans can definitely expect some thrilling battles as Zzweilous aims to shake up the competition at the EUIC!

But Europe isn’t the only region bringing its A-game. Doonebug97, a North American Trainer, is one of the most well-known and established players in the competitive scene. He made headlines as the first Trainer to win three Regional competitions in a single season, solidifying his reputation in the Pokémon GO community. He also started his “villain arc” when he came agonizingly close to winning the 2024 EUIC, famously knocking out nine European competitors on his way to the Grand Finals. With every battle, Doonebug97 continues to prove that he’s a force to be reckoned with!

Representing Argentina, MartoGalde is arguably the best and most notable player of the 2025 season. He hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down since finishing third at the 2024 World Competition in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. He top-cut the first LATAM regional of the season, secured victory as the Special Event champion of Buenos Aires, and shortly thereafter took home the crown at the 2025 LAIC in Brazil. MartoGalde has been throwing trophy moves, and with his impressive track record, all eyes will be on him as he seeks to maintain his momentum at the EUIC.

Proving that nice guys don’t always finish last, Mexican Trainer Richie1409 has had an incredible season, much like his teammate and friend MartoGalde. He made history as the first Trainer ever to win a Regional outside of his home region (2023 in Charlotte). Most recently, he topped the 2025 Special Event in Bogotá. Richie also shines at International Championships, finishing ninth at the 2024 NAIC and taking home the bronze medal at the 2025 LAIC. As he enters the EUIC, Richie1409 is set to be a fierce competitor to watch!

Woooooooo! Australian battler RicFlareon has been globe-trotting this season, taking full advantage of both of his travel stipends to compete at the 2025 LAIC in Brazil and the EUIC in London. Although his season so far hasn’t ignited as strongly as he hoped, he’s known for his ability to adapt and shine under pressure. The 2024 Perth Regional Champion and 2022 Melbourne Regional Champion has a history of surprising his opponents, and fans are eager to see if RicFlareon can really turn up the heat on the international stage!
This will be the last major tournament played under the Dual Destiny format, adding another layer of excitement and intrigue as Trainers finalize their strategies before the Season transitions.

During the Dual Destiny meta, several key Pokémon have risen to the top, including Azumarill, Shadow Feraligatr, Shadow Drapion, Diggersby, and even the little Cottonweed Pokémon Jumpluff. One exciting addition for many Trainers is Shadow Marowak, which Team GO Rocket Leader Cliff recently readded to his team. Shadow Marowak’s powerful Fast Attack Mud Slap has proven effective against many opposing Pokémon, allowing it to shine when battling behind two shields for maximum pressure. Prepare for trouble!
Another newcomer, Corviknight, has captured attention for its seamless fit into the current meta. This Steel- and Flying-type Pokémon has demonstrated its worth by securing victories against key contenders like Clodsire and Azumarill, while also holding its own against staple picks such as Drapion and Feraligatr. Trainers are already testing Corviknight’s potential in the GO Battle League, and its impact at EUIC is highly anticipated.

Big, bulky Galarian Corsola is also ready to astonish its opponents—but many Trainers are biding their time, as they are currently only available in 7 km Eggs, so getting one tournament-ready requires patience. This Ghost-type Pokémon excels at countering many of the main meta threats, though it faces challenges from Normal-type Pokémon like Diggersby and Dunsparce, as well as Dark-type Pokémon such as Drapion.
Big tournaments like EUIC are also ideal for discovering anti-meta picks and new favorite partner Pokémon. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Fire-type Pokémon like Talonflame or Ice-type Pokémon such as Dewgong and Alolan Sandslash making an appearance, alongside Fast Attack Rollout users like Bibarel or Dunsparce—all hoping to shake things up in the top rankings.
As the excitement builds for the 2025 EUIC, Trainers and fans alike are primed for what promises to be a thrilling showdown! With so many formidable competitors and Pokémon to watch, which are you most excited to see? Will a surprise pick take the stage, or will the established meta reign supreme?
Don’t miss a single moment of the battles—tune in live on Twitch at Twitch.tv/PokemonGO to catch all the action as it unfolds! Join the conversation, share your predictions, and cheer on your favorite Trainers as they vie for glory in London.
