In no surprise, Captain America: Brave New World was at the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $88.5 million domestically. Overall, domestically, it has grossed around $100 million over the holiday weekend. It also grossed $92.4 million internationally for a debut of $192.4 million worldwide.
The film’s opening is an interesting one compared to Marvel Captain America films of the past. 2011’s Captain America opened with $65.1 million which is about $91.9 million in today’s dollars. It went on to gross $370.6 million worldwide. Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuted with $95 million in 2014, about $127.5 million today, and eventually grossed $714.4 million worldwide. Captain America: Civil War opened with a massive $179.1 million in 2016, $237.1 million in today’s dollars. It grossed over $1.155 billion worldwide. Brave New World might not seem like a great opening, but beyond inflation calculations, it opened similar to the first two Captain America films.
In second place, Paddington in Peru debuted with $13 million during the weekend and $16 million domestically over the holiday weekend. Internationally, the film has grossed a massive $115.8 million for a worldwide total of $131.8 million.
Heart Eyes slipped to third place with $10 million, an improvement from the last weekend. It has grossed $22.6 million domestically with no international gross.
Dog Man slipped to fourth place from last week’s first with $9.7 million. It has grossed $69.6 million domestically and internationally it add $5.7 million over the week to bring that to $17.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $87.2 million.
Ne Zha 2 debuted in fifth with $7.2 million over the weekend and $8.3 million total domestically and no international gross reported.
In comic film news…
Kraven the Hunter domestically gained about $100,000 over the week and has now grossed a little over $25 million. Internationally, the movie gained a bit, about $50,000, to have grossed just under $37 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just under $62 million after six weeks.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim held domestically at $9.2 million. Internationally the film remained at $11.3 million. The movie has grossed just $20.5 million.
Venom: The Last Dance remain at $139.8 million domestically. Internationally, it remained at $339.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $478.9 million, a slight gain from the previous week.
Solo Leveling: Reawakening remained at $3.4 million domestically. Internationally it remained at just under $3 million for a worldwide total of a little over $6.3 million.
The week’s overall box office success…
Numbers have 70 films earning $152,822,414 from 31,378 theaters. That’s a a big increase from the previous weekend’s $53,923,311 from 36,913 theaters and 70 films. The average earning was $4,870.37 which is also a decrease from the previous weekend’s $1,460.82.
