For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is delighted to showcase the art of a very talented Mexican artist named Vinsel Castro. He has participated in various Pokémon-related ventures, including the first, second, fourth, and fifth generations of the Ilustradoras Unidas-led project known as Pokédex Ilustrada.
For Vinsel, art is a way to express or release what you have in your head and to let out what your mind and feelings are asking for.
“Pokémon means nostalgia, friendship, and discovery—especially friendship. I think this franchise invites you to share all kinds of emotions and experiences you end up treasuring over time,” he shared.
“(Making Pokémon-related art) is the gratification of being a child again because when you mix your profession with something you hold dear to your heart, it takes you back, in a way, to those moments, helping you discover new ways of creating,” Vinsel explained to the Pokémon Blog Team.
It’s difficult for him to pick a favorite Pokémon: “For nostalgia, I would say Squirtle, but when I saw Garchomp’s design, I loved it, and from that moment, he became my favorite. I just love dragons and everything they can represent. I also love the combination of types, design, evolutions, etc. Especially the way he looks. It matches very well with me.”
