DC to Launch New All In Series, ‘Superman Unlimited,’ By Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque

DC has announced a new ongoing series, Superman Unlimited, by Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and artist Rafael Albuquerque. The series will be one of the core titles of a planned DC All In “Summer of Superman” initiative and will launch on May 21, 2025, with a 10-page prelude in DC’s previously unannounced Free Comic Book Day comic, DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, on May 3. The FCBD comic will have a cover by Albuquerque, and Superman Unlimited #1 will have a main cover by Albuquerque and Marcelo Maiolo. The main cover will be priced at $4.99 and card stock variants at $5.99.

The new series will be Slott’s first ongoing series for DC, where he wrote children’s comics and the limited series Arkham Asylum: Living Hell in the 1990s and early 2000s. Since then, he has built a career as the writer of Amazing Spider-Man, The Superior Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, and other Marvel titles.

DC announced few details about “Summer of Superman” other than to say that it will be anchored by Superman Unlimited and the two current ongoing series Action Comics and Superman, along with limited and ongoing series featuring Superman-related characters including Supergirl, Superboy, and Krypto. The Superman feature film is slated for release in July 2025 (see “‘Superman’ Trailer”).

Superman Unlimited kicks off with an asteroid depositing a huge amount of green Kryptonite on earth, allowing criminals everywhere to easily arm themselves with weapons made of the substance and forcing Superman to develop new technology, tactics, and support networks. In addition, the Daily Planet will expand to a multimedia news platform with satellite branches around the world, headed by Jimmy Olsen, Ron Troupe, Cat Grant and Steve Lombard under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Lois Lane.

Superman Unlimited adds to the foundation of DC’s Superman comics in the same way Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness’s Superman/Batman did in the early 2000s,” DC Group Editor Paul Kaminski said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Superman Unlimited will capture the big, fun, high-flying adventures that Superman is known for, while also providing big moments for DC’s Superman-related comics with the introduction of a massive new Kryptonite deposit. Imagine a world where Superman is stopping a bank robbery, but every weapon is packed with Kryptonite ammunition and every petty criminal carries a Kryptonite shiv. This is a world of unlimited danger on a level that Superman, and DC’s Superman family of characters, has never faced before.”

“We just launched Justice League Unlimited in the fall, and Mark Waid and Dan Mora are telling a tale of unlimited Super Heroes in that ongoing series,” Kaminski said. “In contrast, Slott and Albuquerque’s Superman Unlimited is a tale of unlimited Super-Villains that are super-charged by Kryptonite.”

The series is the latest entry in DC’s All In initiative (see “DC’s Next ‘Absolute’ and ‘All In’ Titles”).
