Binc, the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, has announced a new $45,000 matching gift to assist comic and book stores, and their employees, who were affected by the California wildfires. All donations, regardless of size, will be matched up to a total of $45,000, thanks to a donation from Dog Man creator Dav Pilkey, Forefront Books, Ingram Content Group, Macmillan Publishers, and Mad Cave Studios. The donation follows a $10,000 match (see “Binc Donations for Wildfire Relief Will Be quickly Matched”) that was quickly met.
“We were still hearing from book and comic people devastated by hurricanes Helene and Milton last fall when the calls started to come as a result of the wildfires that hit just a week into the new year,” said Binc Executive Director Pam French in a statement accompanying the announcement. “We know from experience that the need will continue to grow as damage is assessed, the fires are contained, and the cleanup begins. We are so grateful for the support of our partners who quickly rallied to provide this generous matching gift.”
In addition to financial aid, Binc offers free mental health assistance to booksellers and comics retailers.

In addition to its Binc contribution, Mad Cave Studios has announced a benefit anthology, LA Strong, to assist creators who have lost their homes in the fires. The anthology will feature comics that celebrate the unique spirit of Los Angeles.
“When tragedy strikes, we stand together. At Mad Cave Studios, we believe in the power of art to heal, inspire, and rebuild. With this anthology, we aim to honor the resilience of Los Angeles and provide much-needed support to those who have been impacted by these devastating fires,” said Mark London, Founder and CEO of Mad Cave Studios, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “This is our opportunity to give back to the community that has given us so much, and we’re calling on creators and fans alike to join us in making a difference.”
