Evil Genius Adds ‘Return of the Living Dead’

Evil Genius Games, which publishes RPGs under its Everyday Heroes system, has licensed Return of the Living Dead for its next Cinematic Adventure, the companies announced.  The new volume, spearheaded by game designer Nick Lowe, will feature new rules and mechanics tailored to the property, and four short adventures in the movie universe.

Return of the Living Dead was a 1985 horror comedy which grew out of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead.  Night of the Living Dead co-writer John Russo, who retained the rights to “Living Dead” titles after he split with Romero, wrote a Return of the Living Dead novel and began developing a film. Directed by geek film director, screenwriter (Alien), and VFX supervisor Dan O’Bannon, the film diverged substantially from the Romero zombie universe, and introduced a number of new concepts to the zombie genre.

The Return of the Living Dead IP is being revived with new licenses; American Mythology will launch a four-issue Return of the Living Dead comic miniseries, written by S. A Check and James Kuhoric, with art by Andrea Arcari and a plethora of cover artists, this month.

Evil Genius publishes RPG products based on Highlander, Total Recall, Rambo, Pacific Rim, and other properties (see “’Highlander,’ ‘Total Recall’ Launched”).
