Look at any list detailing the best anime films of all time, and there’s a good chance that Ghost in the Shell will be on there. The classic cyberpunk tale is widely regarded to be one of the greatest movies of all time, and for Cyber Monday, you can score a big discount on the original manga source material and the 4K Blu-ray version of this landmark film.
Written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow, the Ghost in the Shell manga was originally published from 1989 through 1990, and it received a few print sequels several years later. This deluxe hardcover is priced at $31.49 (was $55) and includes the original saga, Ghost in the Shell 1.5: Human-Error Processor, and the “lost” stories from Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface. The collection clocks in at over 800 pages in size and comes with notes on the series, all of the original cover pages, and a brand-new cover by Shirow.
Set in the not-so-distant future, Ghost in the Shell focuses on the cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi and other members of the counter-terrorist group Section 9 as they chase down a new breed of criminal and sinister organizations. The manga is peak cyberpunk in its design, with Shirow’s creation being cited as a major influence in sci-fi films, like The Matrix trilogy.

If you’d like to pair it up with its anime adaptation, Ghost in the Shell on 4K Blu-ray is available for $10.50 (was $23) and this edition also comes with the film on a standard Blu-ray disc and with a digital streaming code. The remaster of the 1995 film looks really good in ultra-high-definition, and for bonus materials, there’s audio commentary with the cast and crew who helped bring the film to western audiences, featurettes, and the original theatrical trailer.
There’s also a standalone sequel in the form of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and 2015’s Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie to help flesh out your collection. In 2017, Hollywood produced a live-action adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson, and while it wasn’t as well-received, the film still looks pretty impressive thanks to some incredible special and practical effects work. You can grab this one for $22.60 (was $26) and marvel at some very cool worldbuilding.
Years later, Ghost in the Shell’s story would kind of continue with its first anime series adaptation, Stand Alone Complex. Billed as an alternate story from the manga and first film, Stand Alone Complex ran for two seasons across 56 episodes. You can get both seasons discounted on Blu-ray right now, as Stand Alone Complex is priced at $12.90 (was $25) and Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig is available for $17.20 (was $25).
