RipCrypt, a fast-paced, dungeon sprint RPG, is currently live on Kickstarter, seeking to reach its $10,000 funding goal by December 5. Designed for 1 to 8 players, RipCrypt combines a lo-fi aesthetic with accessible mechanics.
Set in the Undergrade—a vast network of aqueducts, crypts, and catacombs—RipCrypt challenges players to navigate hazardous environments, confront lurking dangers, and search for knowledge to ascend to the Overgrade. The game features Keeper-led play with options for solo and player-led modes. Hero creation is quick, requiring only 10 minutes, and gameplay emphasizes fast, streamlined turns with four simple stats for minimal downtime.
With no specific classes or races, RipCrypt introduces heroes based on four core attributes—Grit, Gait, Grip, and Glim—that govern various aspects of strength, agility, leadership, and magic. Combat is straightforward and outcome-driven, using a roll-high d8 dice pool system, with location-based damage for a realistic touch.
The 148-page core rulebook includes a starting delve, detailed cartography by Jeremy Grassman, and illustrations of various adversaries to encounter in the depths of the Undergrade. A premium edition, exclusive to Kickstarter backers, features a black faux leather cover with green foil embossing.
RipCrypt is designed to provide a quick-to-start, dungeon-crawling experience with streamlined rules and a classic RPG feel. A free 80-page preview of the rulebook is available, offering a look into the gameplay and character creation process.
