In the ongoing conflict of the Horus Heresy, the forge worlds played a significant role in the wars involving the Legiones Astartes and Solar Auxilia. This week’s Heresy Thursday announcement from Games Workshop introduces the Mechanicum Battle Group to Legions Imperialis in a new launch box.
This set includes 146 miniatures, offering a well-rounded Mechanicum force with a mix of Tech-thralls, Thallax units, armored vehicles, and powerful battle automata. The Mechanicum’s entry into Legions Imperialis is a notable addition, allowing players to assemble armies for either the loyalist Mechanicum or the Dark Mechanicum.
The box contains 10 Adsecularis Tech-thralls, eight Thallax units, and four Ursarax cohorts, commanded by two Archmagi on Abeyants. These are accompanied by four Myrmidon Destructor hosts, two Myrmidon Secutors, and two Tech-priest Auxilia units.
Several battle automata are also included, with four Castellax Battle-automata maniples and eight Thanatar Siege-automata. These miniatures replicate their larger counterparts from Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, with intricate details scaled down for this release. Two Domitar Battle-automata and two Vorax Battle-automata provide additional mobility, while two rare Arlatax Battle-automata make their debut in miniature form.
Air support comes from two Vultarax Stratos-automata, and four Triaros Conveyors ensure safe transportation for the ground units. These Mechanicum forces can also be used as an Allied Detachment for Legiones Astartes or Solar Auxilia armies, offering flexibility for players building mixed forces.
The rules for these units will be available in an upcoming publication for Legions Imperialis. More information is expected soon, with further reveals promised for next week’s Heresy Thursday.
