For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is beyond delighted to display the art of the incredibly talented Chris Bielefeld Torres (chrisbielefeld1). She participated in the extraordinary project “Pokémon Fan: Dibuja Tu Equipo Soñado,” organized by our friends from Ilustradoras Unidas to celebrate the First Anniversary of FanArt Friday.
Art has a transcendental place in Chris’s life.
“It’s my therapy,” she said. “I’ve been drawing since I was a child, and it became a part of my occupational therapy during the pandemic. Due to a health condition, I have psychomotor problems, and my hands lose their mobility. But art helps keep them active, and keeps my mind in shape to deal with my illness.”
Her journey with Pokémon began the first time she watched Pokémon Anime on broadcast TV and received the little Blaistoise that her parents bought her with effort and love.
“I relate a lot to the Pokémon Sun and Moon commercial about a kid moving to Hawaii who makes friends through Pokémon. I was THAT kid every time I moved. And there was always a Pokémon conversation that helped me to connect and make friends.”
Drawing Pokémon means a lot to Chris.
From drawing Pokémon and putting them on the walls because she couldn’t afford posters to being 12 and making the first illustration of herself with her favorite Pokémon, her memories are full of her passions.
“I remember starting occupational therapy, and the psychologist asked me to draw my daily life; I drew myself with Pokémon. When I opened my Instagram account, I started illustrating my video game adventures,” she shared.
“It’s difficult to choose a favorite Pokémon, but if I think about it: it’s Salamence,” Chris stated. “When I found him back in Pokémon Emerald, I didn’t know him from the Pokémon anime. He was new to me, and his Pokémon entry stole my heart. I had to help that little guy get to heaven. It was a hard task. Shelgon was leveling up, and he was not evolving. No, he just needed a little more time and effort. Finally, he became Salamence and learned to fly on his own. Since then, I’ve learned to lead my life like this: just a little more time and effort, and I’ll get there. And in Pokémon Go, it took me 512 km of walking for my Bagon to become Salamence, walking 7 km daily to work.”
