Onyx Path Publishing has revealed Curseborne, an upcoming tabletop role-playing game set to launch on Kickstarter on October 1. The game puts players in a modern world haunted by ancient curses and monstrous legacies, where characters struggle with the weight of their heritage while navigating a cursed existence.
In Curseborne, players assume the roles of the Accursed, descendants of powerful, monstrous lineages. These characters find themselves caught in ongoing family feuds and bound by curses that affect every aspect of their lives. The world of Curseborne closely resembles our own but with one key difference: bad things happen because of the pervasive influence of curses. Whether it’s a minor accident or a major disaster, the curse is always at play.
The game offers a blend of horror, magic, and modern-day challenges, drawing inspiration from urban horror genres like creepypasta and paranormal romance. Players will experience a world where supernatural forces are constantly at work, and where their characters’ monstrous nature gives them the ability to manipulate curses in ways others cannot. However, this power also makes them targets for the inhuman antagonists who seek to reclaim the magic the Accursed possess.
The Curseborne core rulebook will provide everything players need to dive into this cursed world, using Onyx Path’s Storypath Ultra system, a d10 dice pool mechanic designed for flexibility and immersive storytelling. This will be the first book in a larger series, with future releases planned to expand on the game’s lore, mechanics, and story options.
