Darrington Press, the publishing arm of Critical Role, has announced that pre-orders for its upcoming tabletop role-playing game Daggerheart are now live.
The pre-order offers two versions of the game. The standard Core Set, priced at $60, includes a 300-page hardcover rulebook with detailed guidelines for character creation, world-building, and game management. Additionally, it features a set of illustrated cards to help players easily access character abilities and backstory elements, streamlining gameplay.
For those seeking a more exclusive option, a limited edition is available for $150. This edition includes the same core content as the standard set but offers additional items such as exclusive artwork, a game master screen, pre-printed character sheets, dice, and acrylic tokens, all presented in a special magnet-sealed box.
One of the key features of Daggerheart is its Duality Dice system, which utilizes two twelve-sided dice representing Hope and Fear to determine the outcomes of actions. This system adds an element of unpredictability, as players navigate between success and failure based on the story’s evolving circumstances. While players use these dice, the game master employs a different system, creating an asymmetrical dynamic that adds depth to the gameplay.
For those interested in learning more before committing to a purchase, the open beta version remains available for free on DriveThruRPG and the Darrington Press website. The game is expected to ship in Spring 2025.
