UVS Games Updates Organized Play Structure

UVS Games has updated their organized play structure for UniVersus CCG events happening in 2025.

In the update, UVS outlined how they have steamlined their organized play events down to two levels: Community Store and Competitive. On the Community Store level, players engage in prereleases, weekly events, and scrambles to earn promos and test out their decks. Prereleases will occur on a quarterly basis and will be Best-of-One matches played out with a deck built from packs found in prerelease kits. Weekly events can be demos, learn-to-play events, and standard constructed tournaments the reoccur weekly; scrambles are low stakes, slightly more competitive events that feature the Spotlight format.

As for competitive events, there are essentially three tiers of play that earn players Champion points, so they can continue on up to the Universus World Championships. The competitive event tiers start on with Local Championships, held on the store level. Then, there will be larger scale Regional Championships held starting March 2024. Both of these events award Champion points for participation and placing.

The Universus World Championship, is an invite-only event that lasts three days. Day 1 of the event is a Constructed Swiss grinder, where players need a win enough to make Day 2 (unless they were already qualified for Day 2 via Side Events or Champion points). Day 2 boils the field down to a Top Cut of players that play on Day  3. On Day 3, a World Champion is determined and all players who make the Top Cut receive a Day 1 invite for the 2026 World Championship.

UVS Games has also recently unveiled its UniVersus CCG product lineup for 2025 (see “2025 ‘UniVersus’ Lineup“).
