Chaosium has announced the shortlist for its $10,000 Basic Roleplaying (BRP) Design Challenge, highlighting a variety of tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) concepts from emerging creators.
The competition aims to provide financial assistance to creators for independent publication, whether digital or print. From 195 entries, ten designs have been shortlisted, with each creator receiving USD $500.
Overview of the Shortlisted Games:
- Titanosphere by Rakados: Players navigate a world of giant monsters and colossal mecha, managing both a human protagonist and a gigantic titan.
- Vanguard by Tyrant Nemesis: Survival is key aboard a cutting-edge space cruiser lost in an unexplored region of space, where alliances are crucial.
- In Death by J.D. Trotter: Players journey through the afterlife, facing demons and utilizing ghostly powers to influence the living and the dead.
- Rustbelt by Matthew Tansek: In a post-apocalyptic setting, players make choices about what to salvage, utilizing innovative mechanics that enhance traditional RPG elements.
- Season of Magic by Sam Robson: Players embody a witch using magic and wisdom to heal and protect, in a character-driven narrative.
- Starlust Secrets by Μάριος Καγιασης: A space-based social intrigue game that focuses on character interactions and complex social dynamics.
- A Looking Glass Jukebox by Mark Holsworth: A genre-bending journey with rock bands through alternate realities, mixing music with adventure.
- Kleio by Ian Hathaway & Errico Borro: This game combines historical exploration with educational elements, allowing players to experience historical events firsthand.
- The Prince of Masks by Steve Devaney: A dark fantasy setting filled with mythological horrors and psychological challenges, where humanity contends with supernatural forces.
- Nuna by Tedankhamen Bonnah: Set in an ice-covered land where Inuit and settlers uncover the secrets of their world, striving for coexistence and discovery.
Three winners will be selected from the shortlist to receive an additional USD $2,000 each, along with a trophy. Additionally, the People’s Choice winner, determined through public voting, will receive an extra USD $500.
Chaosium encourages all TTRPG enthusiasts to vote for their favorite entry to determine the People’s Choice winner. The final winners will be announced after the conclusion of the voting period, contributing to the promotion of independent game development within the TTRPG community.
